Intro to
Public Forum Debate
In this week-long half-day camp, we use quick, fun, and creative games, activities, and debate sparring to learn the relevant skills for Public Forum debate, a popular style of debate that focuses on current national events. Debate sparring sessions are short, fun, and easy singles or pairs debates on topics that don't require deep research, e.g., cats vs. dogs, laces vs. velcro, Whataburger vs. In-N-Out, etc. (Continued.)
Level I
Public Forum Debate Intensive
This camp encompasses the information and activities in the "Intro to Public Forum Debate," but also teaches research techniques and goes deep into the development of Constructives, Rebuttals, and Crossfire questions, to help students deeply understand their case and their opponents'. Understanding and utilizing Framework is front and center during this camp. We’ll begin to show students how to plan ahead for a coherent Summary and Final Focus in the challenging second half of the debate. (Continued.)
Level II
Public Forum Debate Intensive
Students will take their research, critical thinking, and debate technique to a new level in this intensive, week-long, full-day camp. Grads of the Level I Intensive camp will already have a solid foundation in the first half of the debate – Framework, Constructives, Rebuttals, and Crossfire. In Level II, we build on this by focusing on the second half of the debate – Summary, Grand Crossfire, and Final Focus. Most students don't have a strong grasp of what Summary and Final Focus are. We reveal and train you in the laser-focused techniques that will allow you to help the judge(s) digest and make sense of their flow, and give them the persuasive rationale they need to confidenly cast their ballot in your favor.
